Barisal, 29 January 2025: PRANTOJON in collaboration with the Coastal Livelihood and Environmental Action Network (CLEAN) and the Bangladesh Working Group on Ecology and Development (BWGED) organized a vibrant celebration of Lunar Chinese New Year 2025 in Barisal City. The celebration is a part of greater dynamic festivities happening all over Bangladesh to foster cultural exchange and amplify the call for increasing investments in renewable energy to ensure a sustainable future for Bangladesh.
The celebration, themed “Renewal, Prosperity, and Sustainability,” has brought together stakeholders from various sectors, including local communities, policymakers, and environmental advocates, to highlight the importance of transitioning to renewable energy. As a global leader in renewable energy innovation and development, China has significant potential to support Bangladesh’s efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable livelihoods. The celebration included Traditional Chinese New Year cultural performances and festivities, a discussion on showcasing the challenges coastal communities face due to climate change, and a joint appeal to encourage stronger partnerships with the Government of China for green investments in Bangladesh.
Speaking about the event, Tauhedul Islam Shahazada, Executive Director of Prantojon Trust Barisal, said, “The Chinese New Year is a time of renewal and hope. By celebrating it in Barisal, we honor a rich cultural tradition and inspire action towards renewable energy investments that can transform the future of our coastal regions.”
Representative of Forum On Ecology and Development Barisal Suvankor Chakroborty said, “Bangladesh’s coastal communities are among the most vulnerable to climate change. This event underscores the urgent need for collaborative efforts in advancing clean energy solutions to protect these communities and promote resilience.”
CAB Secretary Ranjit Datto emphasized, “Renewable energy is not just an environmental necessity; it’s an economic opportunity for sustainable growth. We look forward to engaging with local and international stakeholders to turn this vision into reality.”
