PRANTOJON, a non-profit non-governmental development organization, distributed solar-powered incubators, Irrigation pumps, and sewing machines to 19 women entrepreneurs in Dhankhali and Champapur unions at the Kalapara Upazila Compound on Wednesday at 11 AM, aiming to improve their livelihoods. The chief guest, Upazila Executive Officer Md. Rabbiul Islam, handed over the materials to the beneficiaries.
These solar-powered sewing machines were distributed under the “Strengthening people’s safeguard to protect land rights of marginalized community – Phase II ” implemented by Prantojon with the cooperation of ActionAid Bangladesh.
Discussions were held at the distribution ceremony, featuring Kalapara Ladies Club President Sumaiya Fahimun Ema, Upazila Social Welfare Officer Jahirul Islam, Women Affairs Officer Taslima Akhtar, Upazila Youth Development Officer Swapon Kumar Sarkar, Dhankhali Union Parishad Chairman Md. Tinu Mridha, Champapur Union Parishad Chairman Babul Master, Kalapara Environment and Public Safety Forum Member Secretary Monowara Begum, Kalapara Press Club Convener Md. Humayun Kabir, Joint Secretary SM Mosharraf Hossain, former General Secretary of Kalapara Reporters Club Md. Nahidul Haque, and Prantojon’s Field Coordinator Saifullah Mahmud, among other distinguished guests.
The distributed materials include a solar-powered 400-egg capacity incubator, 2 pumps, and 6 sewing machines. Seven landless women entrepreneurs will operate the incubators, while each pump machine will be operated by 3 women. To run these machines on solar power, solar panels, batteries, inverters, and motors have been provided. As a result, no external electricity will be required to operate the machines. They will operate during the day using solar power and can also run for 6 hours at night using batteries. Additionally, they can be operated for as long as needed without a motor.
